We believe children learn best through hands-on experience, therefore we provide preschoolers a wide variety of experiences including art, language, math, large and small motor activities, music and dramatics through guided as well as free play. I feel these experiences together with a loving, respectful atmosphere will make the most of the amazing discoveries children yearn for during these early years of their lives.
The environment at Tootsie Bear Day Care & Preschool has been arranged to make it a safe place for children to explore and learn. Toys and materials are placed on low shelves and in low, easy-to-open drawers. This makes it easy for children to select the items that they enjoy. It also helps them learn how to make choices and be independent. All children have a place to keep their personal belongings such as coats, blankets, and work to bring home. This lets them know they are a valued part of our classroom community.

When you visit you will notice that we have a schedule that we follow. This lets the children know what comes next. The schedule also allows for for the times when we all do things together, such as Circle Time and times when the children are doing things on their own, such as coloring, using manipulatives, or free play.

I plan many activities for the children to assist in the development of these goals. We build with blocks, dress-up and play make believe, put puzzles together, read books, tell stories, play with sand, water, and other sensory materials, draw and paint, cook, dance to music, and play outdoors. All of these activities are aimed at helping the children do things on their own and to be curious and interested in all that is going on around them.
By encouraging preschoolers to learn and develop at their own level, they will gain the confidence of self-importance. Give them guidance and understanding and they will have the opportunity to explore their world in a safe and controlled environment, which will foster optimum learning from an early age.
